When I purchased my first RC plane one of the very first things I wanted to try besides flying the thing was to attach a small digital camera and record a flight. I had seen many rc pilots on Youtube and later Vimeo that were able to capture some incredible shots in the air. Some of the planes were very large and were running on fuel while others were using straight electric power. So the hunt was on to locate a small inexpensive digital camera that would allow me to record small movies.
The search led me to Aiptek. And the only plane that I had at the time was the Hobbyzone Super Cub. I was limited with the amount of weight and decided on a camera they called the PocketcamX. It was available on their site for a drastically reduced price of around $20. Without hesitation I purchased the camera and researched the net looking for information on where other owners were attaching their cameras to the Cub. After sorting through the weight distribution and camera angle I wanted I began my venture of capturing my flights all over the surrounding area.
Some of my videos are here
Which has led to my current situation... I'd like to upgrade to a higher quality camera while still keeping the weight low. I have seen and researched a few cameras that look like great caninidates and have been keeping an eye on the pricing looking for a sale. I am still searching for new cameras others have tried and even the small camcorders the electric rc guys have been flying for awhile.
Here are a few models/links I have been looking at:
canon sd40
canon sd1100is
canon sd880is
canon a590is heavy
kodak 1033 HD
